Did you know you can tell what type of credit card someone is using without looking at the card? All you need is the first number.

It’s actually pretty easy. The first digit tells you what type of credit card.
Within the United States:
- VISA cards starts with a 4,
- Mastercards start with 5,
- Discover cards start with 6, and
- American Express start with 3.
This may apply worldwide, but I can’t guarantee it.
Next time a client gives you a credit card number you don’t have to ask, “is that Visa or Mastercard”!
