Internet Explorer v9 will be released soon. When this happens, every time you open Internet Explorer you will likely get a reminder from Microsoft asking you to update. The key question is, should you?
Before you install an upgrade like Internet Explorer 9, you should check if your current software is compatible. PCLaw | Time Matters just send out the following notice regarding PCLaw.
“Based on our extensive testing of the Microsoft® Windows® Internet Explorer® 9 release candidate, PCLaw® v10 Service Pack 5 (SP5), HotFix 3 (HF3) is compatible with Internet Explorer 9.* We expect Microsoft to make Internet Explorer 9 commercially available starting at 12:00am Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
Additionally, PCLaw v11—when released during Q2 2011—will also be compatible with Internet Explorer 9.
CAUTION:
Prior versions of PCLaw are not compatible with Internet Explorer 9. Operating these versions of PCLaw with Internet Explorer 9 on the same computer will render PCLaw inoperable”
In the case of PCLaw, if you have a problem uninstalling Internet Explorer 9 and reinstalling Internet Explorer v8 will fix any problems.
Not all vendors will be as proactive in warning about incompatibilities, so it is important for you to check before you install any substantial upgrade.
You can generally find information from the website for your program, from a certified consultant or from technical support. As a general rule it is also a good idea to create a restore point before you install any new software.
