Thanksgiving

Rather than talk about software or business, I offer a more personal message.
I live in Connecticut, in an area where many people were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. I had no power for 5 days – short by comparsion to many. I was truly lucky in that my home sustained virtually no damage and I had a place I could go during the day to be warm, use the internet and charge my devices.
For Thanksgiving we visited relatives on Long Island. Sandy had left them with no power for two weeks. The internet and television returned a couple of days before Thanksgiving and they still didn’t have regular phone service. The small two block area that they live in was hit hard. Even weeks after the hurricane the downed trees and wires and general damage were quite visible. But what was truly amazing was the stories of how the people in the area pulled together to share generator power, get the road cleared and get houses protected from further damage.
While Congress spins their wheels, at least the spirit of sharing appears to be alive and well in other parts of our country.
At Thanksgiving we think about what we are grateful for. This year I am especially grateful for family and friends, health and home. I am grateful to my colleagues who provide support and my clients who trust me to help them and who show their appreciation in many ways.
I hope that all of you have people in your lives to whom you can be grateful and that you thank them.
As we enter the holiday season, whatever you celebrate I wish all of you a happy and healthy year filled with friendship, love and prosperity.
