Does Outlook sometimes freeze when you load it. My colleague, Seth Rowland of Basha Systems, recently shared this tip with me. I found it useful and thought you might as well.
Outlook may freeze when loading if you have too many plugins. Programs like ShareFile, Time Matters, Amicus Attorney and others, may all have Plugins that work within Outlook. If you have too many, Outlook may decide it can’t load everything and freeze.
Another possible cause of Outlook freezing is the size of your mailbox. If it is over 10 GB Outlook may not want to load.
The solution is to load Outlook in SAFEMODE. This can be done with a basic shortcut and a SWITCH.
Create a new shortcut for Outlook which you will name Outlook Safemode. Right click on the new Outlook shortcut and click on Properties. When the windows opens go to the Target box and add /safe to the end. Your Target should look like
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 14\OUTLOOK.EXE” /safe
Note that there is a space between the Quotes (“) and the Slash (/).
After you have added /safe to the shortcut, click OK. Then open Outlook from the shortcut. Outlook will open in safemode. You can then disable the plugins and then reload Outlook in normal mode.
Thanks Seth for this great tip.
