It’s that time again, but this year it’s big news.
Yes, every year around this time Sage starts selling the soon to be released next version of Timeslips. Some years the new features are rather ho-hum, other years there’s a reason to upgrade. In my opinion this year is a good one, especially if you link to accounting software.
The big message for Timeslips 2014 is quality and improved efficiency and workflow. Aside from the proclamation of having fixed all known issues or that Timeslips version 2011 will go off support in November 2013, why should you upgrade?
Are you running Windows 8 yet or thinking of buying a new computer with Windows 8? Timeslips v2014 will fully support Windows 8 and get rid of the problem of extra spaces at the beginning of slips.
Timeslips v2013 introduced the calendar. It was a nice touch as it gave you a shared office calendar and you could create time slips from the calendar but it didn’t sync with anything. For most users, this made it significantly less useful. With Timeslips v2014, synchronization to Google Calendar has been added, making it easy to get your calendar out to your phone or to view your calendar on the internet. If you have Timeslips v2013, we have been told that this feature will be added to Timeslips 2013, but no date is currently available.
Capturing time is critical to most firms and with Timeslips v2014 Sage has introduced significant enhancements. The new TimeCapture feature runs on your computer capturing time for the work you do, with no remembering to start or stop a timer. You can choose programs that Timeslips should ignore – solitaire perhaps. At the end of the day, review your work and make sure you have captured all your time. For those things you might have missed you can quickly create a slip. If you charge $300 per hour and capture an extra 6 minutes per day, five days per week for 50 weeks of the year, that’s an extra $7,500. That’s just 6 minutes from one person! One sent email per day more than pays for your software.
I have long provided support for Timeslips linked to QuickBooks or Sage 50, I even wrote a guide on linking to QuickBooks. However, there were a number of things that the link couldn’t do the way we would have liked. I often started discussions regarding the link going over everything the link can’t do – set expectations properly so that everyone understands. With Timeslips v2014 my apologies are over. The link is significantly improved and now
– it’s easy to create expense slips from bills and checks you write in QuickBooks
– When you have a transaction that requires writing a check from Timeslips, the transaction comes over as a check to be printed. No more need to play with the exchange account
– The Timeslips transfer can be reviewed after the fact and reversed if needed
Timeslips v2014 can help you make more money and save you time. This is an upgrade that is seriously worth consideration.
